We can all get stuck in this loop – a job loss, a meeting that went south, an interaction that didn’t go as planned. I’ve been there. We’ve ALL been there and sometimes, it can be VERY challenging to move out of that place and that’s ok. But, in time, if we can flip the script or swap the thought from “why did this happen” to “what can I learn from this”, suddenly we gain our power back.
When we are asking ourselves, “Why did this happen?”, we are looking for someone or something to blame or shame, but there’s very little gain. Moving from WHY to WHAT questions can move us from hopelessness/loss of control to clarity and action. Exploring the purpose or what can be learned from a particular outcome (rather than the reason), allows you to accept what has happened, and move forward fueled with the lessons and insights that allow you to make shifts and changes that could bring you closer to what you truly want.
What’s a situation that you’re facing where you could benefit from a thought swap?
